Canticle

This image is also on my landscape pages, because it is, after all, a landscape; but the inspiration for it is in one of the classics of science fiction, A Canticle for Leibowitz by Walter M. Miller. Miller's story invoked in me a sense of impending doom, with a seed of hope. I could feel Lazarus, wandering out of that desert in search of the one who had called him forth so long ago.

Frontier

Two or more moons in the sky, bright clusters of stars, clean air, no artificial lights to mar the view...and falling water. It sounds like heaven or close to it. Yet, years of reading science fiction make me wonder what lives in the water or in the caves in the cliff face.
